Karen Blixen Camp is set on the bank of the Mara River with the impressive Oloololo Escarpment in the front and the Mara plains behind; the location is spectacular; throughout the day elephants, giraffes, zebras and impalas come for a drink while a large hippo pod rest lazily in the river. The Camp situated in the beautiful Mara North Conservancy that forms the vital northwestern zone of the Masai Mara Ecosystem. The conservancy borders the Masai Mara National Reserve in the south of Kenya and is part of the Mara-Serengeti Ecosystem.

Guest Suites

Karen Blixen Camp comprises 22 large luxury canvas tents, each placed with privacy and undisturbed view along the Mara River, luxury en-suite with washroom, Persian rugs,  cozy armchairs and romantic outdoor shower, giving you the ultimate in camping luxury. Children are welcome and a family set-up allows extra beds for younger children or two tents, with a shared verandah. Water is heated using solar panels to avoid any use of firewood and thus conserving the Mara Woodlands.

This award is an acknowledgement of the consistent effort put in by the Karen Blixen. Each guest is treated to an exclusive safari experience while taking every possible precaution to protect the natural wildlife area, alleviate poverty through proper working conditions and contribute positively to the local community.

Karen Blixen Camp is fully powered by a solar panel system, with back-up battery bank, providing 24 hours electricity for all facilities.

The camp situated in the beautiful Mara North Conservancy that forms the vital northwestern zone of the Maasai Mara Ecosystem. The conservancy is a beautiful wilderness area of more than 30,000 Ha, which borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve in the south of Kenya and forms part of the Mara-Serengeti Ecosystem.

Restaurant & Bar

Cosmopolitan food with influence from the Far East, India and Africa is served at our table alongside a comprehensive selection of fine wines. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served in the restaurant or bush garden, overlooking the beautiful Mara River, with wild animals visiting for a drink.

Lounge

Built on a raised wooden deck, the main lounge is perfectly located on the banks of the Mara River, overlooking a resident hippo pod, providing our guests with endless entertainment. Comfortable sofas give a welcoming and cozy retreat for the weary traveller. After dinner, the campfire provides the ideal place to discuss your safari adventures, listen to the wild bush sounds and gaze into the magnificent African starlit sky.

Pool

Enjoy a refreshing swim in-between game drives. The camp's chic and organic shaped swimming pool is placed in the midst of graceful acacia and olive trees. Relax in their shade, lying on the comfortable sun beds and enjoy a refreshing drink.

Gift Shop

The gift shop has something for everyone, boasting plenty of locally made souvenirs, beautifully crafted by the Maasai mamas who are supported by Karen Blixen Camp. There are also memorable items with the camp’s logo for a reminder of the place that you have called home for a short while, as well as a few travel essentials.

Game Drives at Karen Blixen Camp

Guests will enjoy early morning game drives, afternoon game drives, full day game drives and thrilling night game drives within the Mara North Conservancy. We encourage you to explore the northern corridor of our conservancy area with the majestic Lemek Hills; a highly important wildlife refuge particular to a pack of threatened African wild dogs.

Full day game drive to the Maasai Mara National Reserve or the Mara Triangle can be organised too. During migration season you have a chance to see the thousands of wildebeests and zebras crossing the Mara River (additional park fees apply).

Open Toyota Land Cruisers are the preferred safari vehicles, with no more than six guests per vehicle to ensure the most comfortable experience, with attention given to every visitor’s wildlife interest.

Responsible Tourism

Tourism has the capacity to protect a natural wildlife habitat, alleviate poverty and contribute positively to the local community. Karen Blixen Camp observes the Working Law of Kenya 2007 and respects the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) declaration on rights to work. The camp also embraces the principle of ‘trade not aid’ to support the local  local community through land lease payments, bed night fee, guest visits to local Maasai villages and purchase of locally produced products.
