A Royal and Military Order of St. Ferdinand, Knight, c.1820 consisting of a blue enamelled Romanian Cross with clusters of nine gilt rays in eac the obverse bearing a central(Real y Militar Orden de San Fernando). Instituted in 1811. Three piece construction, in bronze gilt with red, white and blue enamels, measuring 23 mm (w) x 27. 8 mm (h), intact enamels, scattered gilt wear, near extremely fine. Footnote: The Royal and Military Order of St. Ferdinand was instituted on August 31, 1811 and awarded to members of the armed forces for heroic acts and distinguished services. It may be awarded individually or collectively.
